Zach Wilson Emerging as Top Choice for Chiefs’ Backup Quarterback Behind Patrick Mahomes

Zach Wilson, quarterback for the New York Jets, is currently located in New York City; however, his stay there is not anticipated to last for much longer. It is probable that the former first-round pick will be traded shortly, as the Jets are actively seeking a suitor. Saturday, NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks speculated that Wilson, who would serve as Patrick Mahomes’ reserve quarterback, could potentially find employment with the Kansas City Chiefs. Following the publication of that article, BetOnline offered odds on Wilson’s subsequent squad, with the defending Suρer Bowl champions being the most prominent contender.

When the Jets selected Wilson with the No. 1 overall pick in 2021, they held out optimism that he could provide the solution to their quarterback wоes. Instead, those three years were catastrophic. As the starting quarterback in New York, the former BYU standout recorded a 12–21 record, completing 57% of his passes for 23 touchdowns on 25 interceptions. Zach Wilson obviously failed to meet expectations, which is why the franchise executed a blockbuster trade for Aaron Rodgers in the hopes that he could lead them to victory.

Owner Wооdy Johnson expressed sympathy for Wilson and the strain he endured on his first day in the Big Apple during the most recent NFL league meetings. However, Johnson also stated that he believes the signal-caller has a bright future in this league. As reported by NFL.com:

At the NFL’s Annual League Meeting, Jets’ owner Wооdy Johnson told reporters, “In some ways, I feel bad for Zach. Last year would have been fantastic; it would have been the first time he could just sit back and watch a master at work, and he has never had that opportunity.” “Day one has been spent in the furnace, which I believe is precisely what he requires. He must be in an area where he can engage in prolonged observation. He possesses the necessary talent. He has the ability to do anything. We selected him No. 2 overall for a purpose, and I am certain he will reach that position at some point.

Again, this was merely an analyst’s suggestion. It would not, however, be the worst course of action. Although Mahomes is undeniably the focal point of Kansas City and arguably the greatest quarterback in the world, his backup is anything but dependable. Additionally, Wilson could increase his own value and learn a great deal from the two-time MVP, which could pave the way for a more lucrative opportunity elsewhere.

The fourth-year pro would undoubtedly benefit from playing for a coach such as Andy Reid. He enters a successful environment and is able to absorb every conceivable piece of information. Zach Wilson simply cannot handle the glaring lights of New York City, much less a struggling franchise like the Jets. He was unprepared to handle that level of duress. It became immediately apparent after a single season.

Consider that he is only 24 years old. Wilson still has the opportunity to establish himself as a starter in the NFL. It will almost certainly not be in Gаng Green.
