Chicago Bulls Coby White calls Sabrina Ionescu’s 3-point shootout performance “inspiring”

Coby White not only watched Iowa’s Caitlin Clark become the leading women’s scorer in NCAA history, but he also spent part of his All-Star break admiring another shooter, this time on television.

White watched New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu take on future Hall of Famer Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors on All-Star Saturday night.

“I think it’s opium. It was a great competition. For those two, in one set, and especially for Sabrina to come out on top in the face of all the pressure and get 26 [points] in a performance like that, it was inspiring,” White said. “I think they should continue that momentum next year and try to build on that foundation.

“(Ionescu) can shoot the (expletive) on the ball. For her to go up against the best shooter of all time in that moment and set the tone in that way was certainly inspiring.

As for Clark, White attended the Iowa-Michigan game in Iowa City because his girlfriend’s younger sister, Cameron Williams, plays for Michigan.

“It’s an anesthetic. Obviously, I watched (Clark) on TV. But seeing her in person was very different,” White said. “She’s incredible. She’s talented and super good. For her to hit logo 3 to break the record was a big moment. This place is shaking. It was so loud it was sold out.

When asked about an NBA roster for Clark, White smiled.

“Honestly, with the way she controls the game and the way she plays and involves everyone but also her step-backs and her shots, she reminds me a lot of Luka (Dončić). Both can control the match very well. She can go wherever she wants. She operates pick and roll. She knows how to use a change of pace. She’s not exactly fast but she handles the ball so skillfully that she can outrun any defender.
