The Chicago Bulls pulled away in the fourth quarter to knock out the Atlanta Hawks 136-126

ATLANTA – Ayo Dosunmu scored a career-high 29 points and added seven assists to help the Chicago Bulls reach a season-high in points and beat the Atlanta Hawks 136-126 on Monday.

DeMar DeRozan also scored 29 points and Nikola Vučević finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Coby White added 20 points and 7 assists.

Bogdan Bogdanovic and De’Andre Hunter led the Hawks off the bench. Bogdanovic had 28 points and Hunter scored 23. Trae Young had 19 points but was 2 of 10 from 3-point range.

“We didn’t want to make it a shootout, but we wanted to play fast,” Dosunmu said. “Even when we scored, they scored very quickly. We want to duel with them. We wanted to do our best and be defensive, but as the game progressed both teams scored and then we had to endure some big stops down the stretch.

The win gives Chicago a two-game lead over the Hawks for the No. 9 seed in the East. The Bulls have won both games against Atlanta this season.

Dosunmu was 12 of 18 from the field and 5 of 7 from 3. He continually wreaked havoc on Atlanta’s defense with drives to the basket to create opportunities for himself and his teammates.

“We didn’t start the game well, but Ayo’s speed and pace in the second half really helped us get back into the game. He went down,” Bulls coach Billy Donovan said. “Whether he was making 3s or getting to the rim, he did a lot of good things tonight.”

The Hawks have won six of their last eight games, but they allowed the Bulls to shoot 55.4 percent from the floor and 46.4 percent from 3 to slow their momentum heading into the All-Star break. The Bulls were averaging 111.5 points per game heading into the contest.

“We had a lot of turnovers late,” Hawks coach Quin Snyder said. “We all need to protect the ball better.”

The Bulls led most of the first half, but closed the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 60-59 lead. Dosunmu had eight points during the run as Chicago scored five in a row.

The Hawks are missing starting center Clint Capela, who won’t return until after the All-Star break because of a left hamstring strain.

Torrey Craig started in place of Alex Caruso, who injured his foot in Orlando in the Bulls’ previous game.
